Week 5 Blog Post

This week, we reviewed the 5E model from week 4, which helped me better understand the components and how they can work together effectively. We discussed the teacher vs. student roles for each model component. I really appreciated this review and being able to break it down more. We also learned that the food chains represent a simple and linear energy flow. We discussed the differences between biomes, ecosystems, and habitats. One thing that I learned that really stood out to me was how dolphins catch fish by stirring up mud in a circle to make them jump straight into their mouths. This was interesting because I had never heard of it before.

I could relate much of what we learned to my prior knowledge because we learned about the 5E model last week, and I have already learned about ecosystems and food chains in previous classes. Still, it was good to distinguish the differences between biomes, ecosystems, and habitats. Something that I still find confusing is the food webs and chains. I would like to learn more about that.

I can apply this to my future teaching because I now know more about the role of a teacher when using the 5E model. I can use it more efficiently when creating and teaching future lesson plans. I will also be able to use what we learned about ecosystems, biomes, and habitats to teach my students about them.

  1. Hello Audrey! Breaking it down and looking at the teacher vs. student roles was definitely useful to better understand this content. I agree, the way dolphins catch fish is a really interesting fact. I agree that knowing the differences between biomes, ecosystems, and habitats is important for teaching. I also think food webs and food chains were a little confusing and I am unsure about them. I hope with more examples in lab next week, I will gain a better understanding.

  2. Hey Audrey! I agree that this week was very helpful in gaining a complete understanding of each aspect of the 5E model. I liked how we learned about the 5E model last week and then continued our learning on it this week. I also like how we looked at the role of a teacher and a student in the 5E model. This will be beneficial in our future classroom.

  3. Hi Audrey! I enjoyed reading your post and hearing your thoughts from this week. Similar to you, I appreciated reviewing the 5e model of instruction to better understand the components and how they work together. I thought that your group created a great table to show the students' and teacher's role in each of these phases. I also appreciated reviewing biomes, ecosystems, and habitats. All this information can be used in our future classrooms to better educate our students on ecosystems, biomes, and habitats using the 5e model of instruction.

  4. Hi Audrey! I agree that the review of the 5E model helped deepen understanding of teacher vs. student roles. Breaking down the teacher vs. student roles is such an important step in effectively implementing the model in your future teaching. The distinction between biomes, ecosystems, and habitats can definitely be useful for teaching, and that dolphin fact is interesting!
